IRCTC Next Generation eTicketing System

IRCTC, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, is a part of Indian Railways. It handles online ticket booking, tourism, and catering services of the Indian Railways. IRCTC has recently launched it as a new, faster, and efficient next-generation e-Ticketing system to help people who were facing difficulty accessing the website due to its huge load.

The online ticketing system is mostly accessed during Tatkal timings, and therefore it was difficult to access the website during this time. It was difficult for users to log in to the website and book tickets during the Tatkal timings. But with the NGET IRCTC website, it has become faster to log in and access the website.

It has two websites

  • Corporate website - www.irctc.com.
  • Online Ticketing website - www.irctc.co.in.
Its next-generation e-Ticketing system can be accessed on https://www.irctc.co.in. The online ticketing website is used to check seat availability, login, registration, plan my travel, Tatkal booking, train inquiry, etc.

Online Ticketing

It has transformed the ticketing system of Indian Railways with its best class internet-based train ticket booking and IRCTC mobile ticket booking system. Tickets can be booked from mobile phones via GPRS or SMS. In addition to e-tickets, it also offers I-tickets that are basically like regular tickets except that they are booked online and delivered by post. It also provides the PNR status of tickets booked it online.
Generally, there is a huge load on the website at 10 am, which often slows down the booking process when the Tatkal tickets' booking opens. Therefore on 13th June 2014, IRCTC online booking has been migrated from the old version to the Next Generation e-Ticketing website with certain good features like Quick Booking, Saving favorite journeys, and making some major changes to the User Interface.
