The online ticketing system is mostly accessed during Tatkal timings and therefore it was difficult to access the website during this time. It was difficult for users to log in the website and book ticket during Tatkal timings. But with the NGET IRCTC website, it has become faster to log in and access the website.
It has two websites
- Corporate website - www.irctc.com.
- Online Ticketing website - www.irctc.co.in.
Its next-generation e-Ticketing system can be accessed on https://www.irctc.co.in. The online ticketing website is used to check seat availability, log in, registration, plan my travel, Tatkal booking, train enquiry etc.

Online TicketingIt has transformed the ticketing system of Indian Railways with it's best in class internet based train ticket booking and IRCTC mobile ticket booking system. Tickets can be booked from the mobile phones via GPRS or SMS. In addition to e-tickets, it also offers I-tickets that are basically like regular tickets except that they are booked online and delivered by post. It also provides PNR status of tickets booked through it online.
Generally, there is a huge load on the website at 10 am, which often slows down the booking process when booking of Tatkal tickets opens. Therefore on 13th June 2014 IRCTC online booking has been migrated from the old version to the Next Generation e-Ticketing website which has certain good features like Quick Booking, Saving favorite journeys and made some major changes to the User Interface.
